I'm hiding I'm hiding and no one knows where

My favorite poem when I was little goes...
I'm hiding I'm hiding and no one knows where, for all they can see are my toes and my hair. So I love this picture of Grandpa and Kate hiding from Brady.

Saturday. August 3, 2012

Hi guys,

We thought we would update you on our weekend so far.

We went biking on the Old Abe Trail from Jim Falls to Cobban.  It was a perfect day.

 The happy bikers,

We stopped at Klinger Market Farms north of Chippewa Falls to pick up some sweet corn.  Good sweet corn has been hard to come by this summer but we found a winner in the Klinger Farms sweet corn.  Mary had also picked up some green beens and zuchini at the Farmer's Market in Eau Claire this morning.

It was such a nice night, we ate our evening meal on the porch.

Backing up a couple of weekends, we went camping at Coon Forks with our church group the weekend of July 21 & 22.  You will notice Big Blue is missing from this picture.  Big Blue headed to Rawhide Ranch to start another chapter in its life.  Yes, there are tarps.  We had rain Friday night and Saturday morning.  The rest of the weekend turned into very nice weather.

This is an interesting picture.  We now have good water pressure!  We had Certified Plumbing come out.  They did something which increased our water pressure!  You can't believe it is the same shower.

Instead of barely making it to the top of the pipe and dribbling out, we now have water pressure that shoots the water across the shower to the opposite wall!  We know, but this is making us very happy!

35th Wedding Anniversary

Mary and I celebrated our 35th Wedding anniversary this weekend.  On our actual anniversary we went to the new Brazilian steak house in Eau Claire on Monday, June 18.  On Tuesday night, June 19, we went to hear Blues in the Park at the Owen Park bandshell.  Thursday night we went to Phoenix Park to hear the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra.  On Friday morning we headed up to Bayfield for a two night stay.

We went to Duluth first to have lunch a Grandma's Deli and have a little look around.  We spend part of our honeymoon in Duluth 35 years ago, so we thought it only appropriate.

Mary in front of Grandma's Deli with the lift bridge in the background.

Notice the color of the water.  It isn't blue!

They had heavy rains in Duluth earlier in the week which resulted in flash flooding.  A lot of the reddish clay soil was washed into the water.  The water in the entire harbor and for quite a ways into Lake Superior was this reddish-brown color.

We stayed in Bayfield at the Reiten Boatyard condominiums.  We had unit 209 which is where Chelsea and Edwin stayed with us two years ago.  Notice the water here was clear blue!

Friday night we had tickets for Big Top Chautauqua.  The performance was something they billed as "New First Night" which was the first performance of the 2012 season in the tent.  It was sort of best of the Blue Canvas Orchestra.  The Blue Canvas Orchestra consits of all the house musicians.

Saturday morning we started out at the Egg Toss Bakery for breakfast.  Mary had the scrambled omlet with sausage and a carmel roll.

The couple sitting in the corner behind us were celebrating their 13th anniversary.  The man of the couple took our picture.  They were from Chaska, MN.  I had the granola pancakes.  The pancakes were so good we went back to the Egg Toss Bakery for breakfast on Sunday morning and I had them again!.

Saturday was a cloudy, drizzly, raining type of a day for the mid-part of the day.  We browsed and shopped in downtown Bayfield and drove out to Eckel's pottery.

No trip to Bayfield is complete without a walk on the docks of the harbor!

This was a typical scene looking out towards Madelline Island.  The boat on the left is the ferry.

A close up of the ferry.  We had planned to ride our bikes on Madeline Island on Saturday but when it rained and drizzled most of the day, we decided against it.  We ended up not getting out to Madeline Island on this trip.

Saturday night we had dinner at Ethel's in Bayfield.  Chelsea and Edwin ate here with us two years ago.  Mary and I both had whitefish which was delicious!

The Wisconsin Alumni Association happened to be in town for the weekend.  They were staying at the Bayfield Inn.  We crossed paths with Wisconsin alumni all weekend.  They sponsored Saturday night's show at Big Top Chautauqua.  We went back on Saturday night.  It was the same performers but a different show.

A view of the inside of the tent and the Blue Canvas Orchestra.

Mary was hoping to see a loon and we did on Sunday morning in front of our condo.
All to soon it was time to come home!
